Baithak – Challenging Taboos

Baithak - Challenging Taboos is a grassroots-led, women-led, feminist organization that works to strengthen community-led efforts for improving girls’ and women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights and climate and gender justice across Pakistan. We support young girls and women, grassroots activists, and frontline workers to understand their rights, strengthen leadership and advocacy, and organize within their communities. Alongside this, we engage government actors, civil society, and institutions to strengthen gender-responsive approaches to climate action, gender-based violence prevention, and community well-being. We also work with young boys and men on positive masculinities, male allyship, and gender-based violence prevention

Key Thematic Areas

Climate Justice

In a world where Pakistan stands as one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, we champion gender-equitable climate change and climate crisis response.

Menstrual Health Management

Menstruation in Pakistan is considered a taboo topic and is attached to stigma, which has led to period poverty and has negatively affected menstrual health management

Feminist Movement Building and Leadership

In Pakistan, feminist movement building and leadership continue to face structural barriers, limited resources, and shrinking civic spaces.

Male Allyship and Positive Masculinities

We live in a society where gender norms shape how men and boys are expected to think and behave, which is enabled by the patriarchal mindset.

Mental Health and Well-being

Mental health and well-being is one of our key thematic areas, where we work to strengthen emotional resilience and community care.

Gender-based Violence Prevention

At the heart of our work is a commitment to ending GBV. We design and implement community-driven programs that challenge the power dynamics

Gender and Tech

Technology has the power to transform lives, and we utilize it to advance sexual and reproductive health education.
